A Fresh Start
Within the public school system, children with different learning abilities often fall behind because teachers are not provided with enough time or resources to adequately serve them. An individualized approach is key to a successful education for High Functioning Autism and ADHD students because they have unique differences which can vary widely from one child to the next. Great Accomplishments Academy recognizes this and has adapted an approach to embrace this unique population of students.
GAA was established, in 2013, with the purpose for each of our students to gain confidence to achieve goals that will assist them to become successful individuals. Tonya Clark-Blackmond, the founder, has special education experience here in Eastern North Carolina. She has dedicated her life to serving children dealing with behavioral issues due to various reasons. From her experience she has learned that when you eliminate the pressures of fitting in or being accepted, children can focus more on their education. She wanted GAA to be a safe learning environment for each child to excel in, free from bullying, and feeling out of place. She is driven by what she refers to as a “calling on her life,” as well as the need for a school that recognizes the importance of achievement from all students regardless of their learning styles.
Tonya founded The Academy because she believes in a program that provides a fresh start for students instead of a last resort. Here at GAA we nurture every student’s strengths and work vigorously to improve their weaknesses. We believe that our students have bright futures and can accomplish anything that they set their hearts and minds out to do. We are confident that our students will gain the necessary skills to integrate back into a traditional secondary school with ease.
